Nepal, Uniforms and Christmas

For people who were missing during the meeting that this was discussed, and to other people who are interested anyway, we are beginning to plan the planning of the plan for an expedition to Nepal at some point in the future..... We will be posting updates as we get info, and of course, everything will be revealed at the meetings anyway.

Also, for the new members who don't have a uniform,  no pressure, but if you want to take a look, the Scout Shop is on Mac Curtain Street (the street Leisureplex is on). Don't worry about a Neckerchief, Yvonne has ordered custom ones, just                              for us. :-)  The neckerchief in the picture is particularly nasty...

Finally, Merry Christmas to everyone, and remember there are plans to go ice skating in January, so that's something to look foward to! Yvonne will text everyone with the details of the next meeting, which will be sometime in the first half of January.

More Musicals?

Coláiste Choilm finished their School Musical, Hairspray last Thursday. Both David Lane and Darragh Nagle were both in the the main group of dancers in the show, I was only in the Chorus, although I did get to be a black guy for a few nights. The celebrations after the show lasted well into the night which pretty much spread all over Ballincollig! I don't know how, but Darragh Nagle seems to be in none of my pictures..........

I will be uploading some pictures of the show in the Picasa Web Albums, so if you are from Coláiste Choilm, and want some pictures, feel free to download them from there.

Frank in Grease

Frank's school musical, Grease was on yesterday, so we decided to go up to Pobalscoil an Inbhear Scéine to support him. Frank played Danny Zuko, the male lead role. I think everyone was unanimous that Frank was brilliant. In Pobalscoil an Inbhear Scéine the musical isn't limited to 4th Years, so maybe we'll get to see Frank again next year!

Ian and Rory (who was just getting a lift off us) dressed in Santa costumes, and went about the audience giving out sweets before the show. They won a cake for the best dressed audience members!

There are more pictures to be found in the 'Picasa Photostream' on the top right corner of this page.

Corrán Tuathail Sat. 17th October

Again, a bit late, I know, but it was our first activity with new people. Said new people are in the picture on the right hand side, Darragh Nagle and David Lane, both from Choláiste Choilm

We were unbelievably lucky with the weather climbing Corrán Tuathail. We decided to climb the Devil's Ladder,  the more 'questionable route'. It's covered in scree which means that one false move can send dozens of rocks tumbling down the mountain, which isn't great if you're behind these rocks.Anyway, we summited relatively unscathed, and stayed up there for lunch. To be honest, it didn't feel like the highest mountain in Ireland. Maybe the OS people screwed up their measurements or something.

Ventact 4th-6th September

I know this was way back in September, but it's worth a mention. Ventact is a weekend activity held every September in Kilcully. It's a National Event, so there were Ventures from all over the country. We saw some familiar faces from WSJ 2007 actually! Only Frank, Iollann and myself actually went, which was alright, considering at the time there was only 5 Ventures at the time. The main, ticketed activities were on Saturday, which ranged from Archery to Caving to Windsurfing.  I went to a naval base in Haulbowline, and Frank and Iollann both went to ''Boot Camp'', run by the Army, which basically involved a lot of mud and push-ups. There was also a disco that night. Foam machines, and lasers and all that craic. Nothing much happened on the Sunday, people just sort of left,  regardless of the fact that there was meant to be a Closing Ceremony. Oh well. That seems to be the way Ventures works....

4th Cork Venture Blog Up and Running

Hello everyone! As you may or may not know, the Venture section of the 4th Cork Scout troop has re-opened after roughly seven or eight years, so we have decided to start this blog to let everybody know what we're up to, and keep our own members up to date with events and activities. We will also try to get pictures from every activity and post them here, so everyone can also see what kind of things we do in Ventures! Hopefully by the end of this year, we'll have a respectable collection of entries and photos that we can look back on.
